ARTIST STATEMENT

The physicality of drawing, painting, collage, and assemblage act as tangible ways to simultaneously utilize and reclaim my digitized life. With the belief that everything on Earth is connected, I paint and arrange acquired materials to discover unseeming visual relationships. Found objects expand my nonlinear personal narrative and I often incorporate imagery from my ongoing collection of candid photos. Off-beat landscapes with an unsettled sense of place and time emerge, balanced with strong linear motifs. Trees, legs, telephone poles and other structures ground me in otherwise overwhelming or empty compositions.

In the act of extemporaneously creating each piece, I ponder themes of individualism, self awareness/consciousness, entropy, and human need for organizational structures. I find solace when I uncover existing relationships in visual terms - color, line, and space - after purposefully integrating an array of source materials.
